Barcelona: Give Alcacer a chance!

(Baonghean.vn) - After an unsuccessful season, the former Valencia striker is facing the risk of leaving Camp Nou to find a new club.

Barcelona's management has successfully signed former player Deulofeu as a backup option for the MNS trio (Messi - Neymar - Suarez) for the 2017/2018 season. The arrival of the 1994-born striker will further jeopardize Alcacer's chances of remaining at Camp Nou.

Despite falling out of favor at Barcelona, Alcacer is still sought after by several European clubs. If the Catalan giants agree to let the former Valencia player leave, it would be an illogical decision.

Leaving Mestalla in the final days of the 2016 summer transfer window, Alcacer arrived at Camp Nou with high expectations. This wasn't just because of the €30 million Barcelona paid to Valencia, but also because what the striker, born in 1994, had shown while playing for Valencia had convinced Barcelona's scouting team.

Unfortunately, the immense pressure at Camp Nou and the infrequent use by coach Luis Enrique are fundamental reasons why Alcacer has failed to impress whenever he has been given the opportunity to play. The superb qualities of a top-class striker have suddenly disappeared in Alcacer's performances.

Alcacer squandered a series of golden opportunities created by his teammates in front of the opponent's goal, a truly regrettable waste. It wasn't until mid-December 2016 that the Spanish national team striker scored his first goal for Barcelona, against Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia) in a friendly match.

Exactly three weeks later, the former Valencia striker opened his La Liga goalscoring account for the Camp Nou side with a precise tap-in against Bilbao in the 21st round. Thanks to this goal, Alcacer regained some of his confidence. Towards the end of last season, the 24-year-old striker was used more frequently by coach Luis Enrique.

In the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Alaves, Alcacer started the match as a replacement for Suarez, who was serving a suspension. Living up to the trust placed in him by the Barcelona coaching staff, Alcacer delivered an impressive performance, scoring the goal that sealed the 3-1 victory for his team.

Six goals in 19 matches is a very modest number for a talented striker like Alcacer. However, the situation the former Valencia player experienced has been repeated many times in the past. For example, Neymar also took his entire first season to find his place in Barcelona's playing style.

Take the example of striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan forward went a full month without scoring since returning from his FIFA suspension (for biting Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup). He played in the El Clasico at the Bernabeu (October 25, 2014), but it wasn't until November 25, 2014, that Luis Suarez finally broke his scoring drought with a goal against APOEL Nicosia in the fifth matchday of the Champions League group stage.

To date, Camp Nou has yet to welcome any quality stars. Pushing Alcacer out of the team is too hasty and heartless towards the striker born in 1993. Give the former Valencia player a chance to prove himself, instead of letting him go for a paltry price.
