Free preschool tuition for 5-year-olds in extremely disadvantaged areas

To ensure that all age groups have access to education, reduce school dropouts and increase the rate of children attending school in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, the Government has agreed to implement a policy of exempting tuition fees for preschool education for 5-year-old children in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions from 2018.

Accordingly, 5-year-old children in disadvantaged areas will be exempted from tuition fees, not just children from ethnic minorities as before. And the application of tuition exemption for 5-year-old children in disadvantaged areas will be implemented 1 year earlier than expected.

The Government also agreed to continue implementing the policies stipulated in Decision No. 1033/QD-TTg dated November 30, 2011 of the Prime Minister on developing education, training and vocational training in the Mekong Delta and Decision No. 1951/QD-TTg dated November 2, 2011 of the Prime Minister on developing education, training and vocational training in the Central Highlands provinces and mountainous districts of the provinces bordering the Central Highlands until December 31, 2020.
