After many years of research, Vietnam has successfully manufactured a remote-controlled 12.7mm machine gun complex integrated with computers and modern sensors.
In the 5 years (2011-2015 period), the Weapons Institute (General Department of Defense Industry) has successfully researched and produced many types of modern weapons, equivalent to foreign models for our army. One of the most notable weapons is the remote-controlled 12.7mm machine gun complex. |
Currently, in the world, many countries (Russia, USA, Israel, France, Germany...) have successfully researched a series of models of remote-controlled machine guns and cannons integrated into armored vehicles, tanks, warships, and fixed fortifications. The advantage of this type of weapon is that the gunner can sit from another place, protected to press the button to fire at the target "seen" by the camera. Much safer than the gunner having to stand behind the gun. |
The 12.7mm automatic machine gun complex is designed with 3 main parts: a multi-function control stand; a central computer and a day-night surveillance camera operated by automatic control room officers and engineers, researched and manufactured by the Weapons Institute. |
The type of machine gun that we integrate into this automatic weapon system could be the 12.7mm NSV heavy machine gun produced by Russia, but we have now mastered the technology to mass produce it domestically. |
The gun has a firing rate of 700-800 rounds/minute, with an effective range of 1,500m to 2,000m against air and ground targets. |

And this is the central control computer, which can be placed far from the gun mount. The equipment is quite compact, simple, and convenient to install on small warships and armored vehicles. |

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hung - Head of the Automatic Control Department, Institute of Weapons, after the test firing process, based on the opinion of the advisory board, the research team is studying to move the day-night camera to the bottom of the gun to ensure coaxiality with the barrel. Second, the current ammunition box only holds 200 rounds, the direction is to increase the reserve to 500 rounds to maintain firepower longer. |

After completing the adjustment process, the automatic machine gun complex will be mass-produced for units throughout the army. Photo: The remote-controlled 12.7mm anti-aircraft gun complex is tested for the last time at the Mieu Mon shooting range. |
