A statement from the CPP said the party's victory in the commune-ward council elections showed that the Cambodian government's reform programs and policy implementation were on the right track, creating real benefits for the people. It affirmed that with the achieved results, under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the CPP will continue to win in the general election in July 2018.

The official results of the commune and ward council elections announced by the National Election Commission (NEC) on June 25 showed that the ruling CPP party held the top position, followed by the opposition CNRP party.

According to this result, the CPP continued to win in 1,156 out of 1,646 communes and wards nationwide. The opposition CNRP won in 489 communes and wards. The Khmer National Unity Party won in one commune.

In the election with the participation of the 12 parties mentioned above, the CPP won the support of 3,540,056 voters (accounting for 50.76%), while the CRNP was supported by 3,056,824 voters (accounting for 43.83%). The total number of commune and ward council seats received by the CPP was 6,503 seats, while the CNRP received 5,007 seats. According to the NEC, 90.37% of voters out of a total of more than 7.8 million registered voters went to vote for 1,646 commune and ward councils nationwide.

In the 2012 commune and ward council elections - when the opposition CNRP had not yet been established - the CPP won 1,592 out of 1,633 commune and ward chief seats. Thus, although the CPP still led in this election, its leading position in more than 430 communes and wards was reduced compared to the 2012 election.

The official results of the above-mentioned commune and ward council elections show the overwhelming advantage of the CPP, but also reflect the rise of the opposition party CNRP with prospects in the general election next year./.
