(Baonghean.vn) - Speaking on the "Russia 1" TV channel, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "Russia will act to protect its rights and interests. At that time, no one will have the right to voice objections or doubts."

Mr. Peskov added that the fact that US President Donald Trump officially signed the bill to increase sanctions against Russia does not change anything in reality.

Explaining the expulsion and limitation of the number of US diplomatic staff in Russia, Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow did not want to do that because it would harm the development of bilateral relations, but Russia had no other choice.

The Kremlin spokesman added that President Vladimir Putin believes that Russia's patience in waiting for an improvement in Russia-US relations has its limits. Accordingly, Russia will certainly take "retaliatory" measures against the US, but not right now.

Responding to President Donald Trump signing the bill, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also stated: "This is a short-sighted and even extremely dangerous policy because it risks seriously affecting global stability in which Moscow and Washington play a key role."

Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev wrote on his Facebook page: "The US President's signing of a bill on new sanctions against Russia has many consequences. First, the hope of improving relations between Russia and the new US administration has ended. Second, the US declared a full-scale trade war with Russia. Third, the Trump administration showed complete impotence, handing over executive power to Congress. This changes the balance of power in US politics."

US President Donald Trump reluctantly signed the Russia sanctions bill into law, although he affirmed that it "still has significant shortcomings and some clearly unconstitutional provisions".

Analysts say that this bill is comprehensive and cannot be repealed by a special presidential decree without the consent of the National Assembly. Therefore, the relationship between Russia and the US in the coming time will be very tense, even "downhill".
