(Baonghean) -These days, throughout the communes of the mountainous district of Tuong Duong, there are volunteer student teams from universities, colleges and local youth contributing to beautifying the villages, bringing their youth and knowledge to build a new life.

We visited Xieng Huong village (Xa Luong commune) - where the SVTN team of the History Department - Vinh University is operating. On all roads, the SVTN team is divided into groups to clear bushes, collect garbage and sweep the roads. The village has a fairly large area, is densely populated, and has many branches, so the general cleaning is quite difficult, but everyone is happy and enthusiastic about the activities.

Before returning to Xieng Huong village, the SVTN team and the youth in the commune went to Na Be and Hop Thanh villages to help the Kho Mu and Mong people open roads to farming and livestock areas. At the same time, they repaired sunken roads and built embankments for the people in Khe Ngau village; and organized garbage collection in Ang village. Wherever they went, the teams proactively integrated propaganda content on raising awareness of environmental sanitation, health care and disease prevention.

During the day, they work through the forest and wade through streams, and at night, they return to the village’s community cultural house to organize summer activities for the children and teenagers. The children are taught new songs and dances by university students, learn to draw, and are equipped with the necessary knowledge for their age. Through these activities, the team members take the opportunity to promote skills to prevent drowning and prevent abuse, helping the children become more courageous in their behavior.

In Yen Na commune, we met the SVNT team helping the family of Mr. Lo Van Quyet (Xop Pu village) - a victim of toxic chemicals - to weed their fields. Mr. Quyet's health was poor, his family was short of people, while his rice fields were full of weeds. He was very grateful for the timely help. Also in difficult circumstances, Mrs. Moong Thi Sam (Huoi Xen village), the wife of a martyr, was helped by the SVTN team to clean the house, build fences, organize sanitation, and decorate the area around the house.

Up to this point, the youth volunteer movement in Tuong Duong has achieved encouraging results: building a volleyball court in Nga My commune; clearing 15km of inter-village roads and 2km of concrete roads in Tam Quang commune; leveling and dredging 20km of intra-field irrigation canals in the communes of Xa Luong, Nga My, Tam Dinh, Tam Quang and building more than 1,000 waste treatment pits in Tam Quang commune. At the same time, 30 light bulbs were installed to light up 500m of village roads, and ban flower trees were planted in Nhon Mai and Thach Giam...

Discussing the summer youth volunteer movement, Mr. Le Hong Thai - Secretary of Tuong Duong District Youth Union said: "The youth volunteer teams in Tuong Duong are all very active and loved by the local people, especially the children. At the same time, they also attract and gather young people in the area to participate in collective activities, towards the community, thereby raising awareness and sense of responsibility".
