Driving in the wrong lane kills 3 people

(Baonghean.vn)- After causing a serious accident that killed 3 people in Khe Do hamlet, Nghia Xuan commune, Quy Hop district, Nguyen Quoc Dung went to the police station to surrender.

On the morning of July 26, the People's Court of Quy Hop district opened the first instance trial of the criminal case against Nguyen Quoc Dung (born 1992), residing in Trung Luong ward, Hong Linh town (Ha Tinh) for the crime of "Violating regulations on controlling road vehicles".

Defendant Nguyen Quoc Dung was sentenced to 58 months in prison.

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Quy Hop: at 4:40 p.m. on March 31, 2017, Nguyen Quoc Dung drove car with license plate 38C-011.10, in the direction of Nghia Dan district to Quy Chau. When reaching Km48+200 of National Highway 48 in Khe Do hamlet, Nghia Xuan commune, Quy Hop district, he confronted a motorbike with license plate 37X6-6355 driven by Nguyen Dinh Chinh, carrying two people sitting behind, Nguyen Duc Quang and Yen Van Tung.

As a result, Nguyen Dinh Chinh, Nguyen Duc Quang and Yen Van Tung died on the spot, Nguyen Quoc Dung was injured, the motorbike and car were damaged. The cause was driving the car on the wrong side of the road.

At the trial, defendant Dung confessed to all of his crimes as stated in the indictment and apologized to the victims' families.

Based on the evidence and documents examined at the trial; based on the results of the debate at the trial on the basis of full and comprehensive consideration of the evidence, opinions of the Prosecutor, the defendant and other participants in the proceedings. The panel sentenced defendant Nguyen Quoc Dung to 58 months in prison for the crime of "Violating regulations on controlling road vehicles" as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 202 of the Penal Code.

Regarding civil compensation, the victims' families and the defendant's representatives have reached an agreement. The victims' families' representatives have submitted a petition to reduce the defendant's sentence.
