(Baonghean.vn) - The poor cowherd girl in Tan Ky is now one step closer to her dream of studying Japanese at Hanoi National University and further becoming an ambassador.

In the 2017 national high school graduation exam, Phan Thi Minh - a pretty, intelligent, small-figured girl (12th grade student C6, Tan Ky High School) made many people admire her when she achieved a national high school exam score of 30 points (including regional scores), group C.

The dilapidated house of Phan Thi Minh's family in Hamlet 12, Nghia Hanh Commune, Tan Ky District was therefore crowded with neighbors coming to congratulate the poor student. It is known that her component scores were 9.0 in Literature; 9.75 in History; 9.75 in Geography. Her total score was 28.5; among the highest in Nghe An Province.

Minh's mother, Le Thi Thanh, has a small figure and a haggard face with a toothless smile. She shared: "On the day of the exam, Minh said he did well on the test, but I didn't expect his score to be so high. For years of working in the fields, my husband and I couldn't even afford a decent bicycle for our child. All expenses were mostly supported by teachers, siblings, and benefactors. Many times, he wanted to drop out of school because his family was too poor, and go to work to earn money, but the teachers kept encouraging him, and in the end, his efforts were duly rewarded."

For 12 consecutive years, Minh has been an excellent student. In 9th and 11th grade, he won second prize in the provincial excellent student competition in History - which is also his favorite subject. He said that Ms. Kim Dung - his History teacher - is his inspiration and motivation. To him, Ms. Dung is like a second mother who has encouraged him a lot in his studies and life.

Regarding the secret to achieving high results in the recent National High School Exam, Minh said: "For the subjects of Literature - History - Geography of group C, diligence and hard work are not enough to absorb the huge amount of knowledge from books. My method is to create a mind map, try to string them together, the data is encoded into the date and year of birth of friends, family and relatives to make it easier to remember."

Besides studying, Minh also helps his parents with farm work. His parents work as hired laborers all day long and come back late at night. Minh takes care of all the housework, from herding cows, cleaning, cooking, washing dishes to taking care of and teaching his younger sister. At school, besides studying, Minh also enthusiastically participates in movement activities. He is honored to be one of the 10 students of the school who participated in the Party target class.

Minh's first choice is the Japanese department at Hanoi National University. His dream is to become an ambassador in the future. In the immediate future, Minh hopes to live in a student dormitory and receive a scholarship to help ease the burden on his parents. He also plans to find a part-time job to cover the costs of studying and living away from home.

Teacher Tran Viet Anh - homeroom teacher, Geography teacher of class 12C6 shared proudly about Minh: "Her family is poor but she is very determined. Her house is far away, every day she has to cycle dozens of kilometers to school on an old bicycle. Minh has been good at all subjects since grade 10, she is also very studious and modest."

With the current situation, Minh’s road ahead will probably be full of difficulties and hardships. Let’s wish this poor but determined student luck and help her achieve her dream./.
