(Baonghean.vn) - Fire and explosion are always potential dangers that threaten property and life. In just over 3 minutes, a spark from a cigarette butt falling on the sofa can burn down the entire room. To prevent unfortunate events from happening, Tran Kim Khanh, a lecturer at the Fire Prevention and Fighting University, shared escape skills in case of fire.

According to lecturer Kim Khanh, up to 90% of fire victims die from inhaling toxic smoke.

The first thing to do when a fire breaks out is to stay calm and think about how to find an escape route or how to put out the fire using tools available in the home such as fire extinguishers, blankets, etc. If you cannot put out the fire, move everyone out of the room and close the door. Closing the door to the room on fire helps to limit the spread of smoke and fire to other rooms.

After closing the door, alert the people around. Depending on each case, you can alert everyone without necessarily shouting to cause panic and confusion, which can lead to many unfortunate situations.

To avoid toxic gas, the victim should crawl downstairs, cover their head with a wet towel to avoid inhaling toxic gas and to have more oxygen to breathe. They can crawl, as close to the floor as possible, and try to feel their way to the side of the wall. Because in a fire, smoke makes it difficult to see, so feeling along the side of the wall will help them quickly find a way out.

Note that opening the door suddenly can also be a suicidal act, especially in the case that the other side of the door is a closed room on fire. The sudden opening of the door causes oxygen from the outside to rush in, causing the person opening the door to receive the full force of the fire and toxic gas towards themselves.

The advice for this case is to first check the temperature behind the door by waving your hand in front of the door to feel the temperature. After checking, use the tools around to slowly open the door while paying attention to bending down. If you feel the temperature is too high, absolutely do not open this door.

After finding a way to another room, where there is a balcony or window, the victim should use a bright-colored towel or shirt to signal for help. The fire department will focus on that area to put out the fire and help rescue people. At this time, be careful not to scream too much, only scream when you see someone or open your phone and use the flashlight to signal where you are or call 114 to describe your location in detail.

While waiting for firefighters, you can save yourself by using means to escape such as ropes, towels, etc. The top priority in a fire is to use stairs and emergency exits to get out.

In case of fire in a high-rise building, never jump unless there is a cushion below.

The advice that lecturer Kim Khanh wants to convey in case of fire should be:"Crawl down low, follow the wall, follow the emergency light".

On August 5, the fire prevention and fighting experience program was organized by Hope & Believe Club (a group of parents sharing their views on child education) in collaboration with the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police of Nghe An province. During the experience, children and parents were directly taught and guided by Lieutenant Colonel Tran Kim Khanh, a lecturer at the Fire Prevention and Fighting Department of the Fire Prevention and Fighting University under the Ministry of Public Security, on safety skills for fire prevention, fighting and rescue.
