(Baonghean.vn) – Although it was just a defeat in a regional youth tournament, the loss to U15 Vietnam was enough to give Thai football and fans in the neighboring country a sleepless night.

On the Thai Football Federation’s Fanpage, home fans had heated debates about the defeat of Thailand U15 in the final of the Southeast Asian U15 Football Championship. Many people were calm about this defeat, but many also expressed their dissatisfaction.

A fan named Nutapong Promawan frankly admitted that Vietnamese football is making progress and Thailand needs to be cautious: “Thai football needs to pay more attention to improving the football thinking of young players. Today, Thai youth football failed, does not mean that it will be the same in the future. However, I think Vietnam will develop more in the future. Vietnamese young players have developed further than what they have shown.

If we look at the way they play and the statistics, it will be a completely different story. I see that both football is developing, Thailand is a little bit better, but the gap between us and them has shortened, not as we think...”

Sharing the same view, a person named Ismail Chawalit commented: “Congratulations to the Thai coaches and players, they did everything they could. It was a pity that Thailand lost in the penalty shootout. And we need to improve on this. Vietnamese youth football is developing. They will be a formidable opponent in the future.”

Besides that, there were some mocking comments, nicknamed Nuttaya Damrongvorakul showed little sympathy for the Spanish coach of U15 Thailand: “Why couldn’t the match end after 2 halves but had to go into a “shootout” and then lose? Coach Salvador Valero Garcia can help the home team win in the official 80 minutes? I don’t know what this coach is doing anymore. If you are not a regional champion, you will never progress..”

“Does he have a plan for development? Let’s see what he has built for our country. The coach’s tactics could not help Thailand win” - fan Jumboo Morakotkhieo was indignant.

Standing up to defend the defeat, fan Terati Ko-anantakul reassured: “It's been a long time, the new coach has only been here for 4 months, he needs more time to get acquainted and train the kids.”

Another share from fan Kanta Sounna: “Our goal is to become champions in ASEAN. What I see is that young Australian football players are not champions, but when they grow up, why do they go further? I think we are hovering around regional goals.”

Most Thai fans do not believe that the quality of the Thai U15 team is not inferior to that of Vietnam and they clearly cannot rest assured. Especially when Vietnamese youth football is showing positive signs, especially the mark at the recent U20 World Cup in Korea.

However, no matter what, the victory of U15 Vietnam in this tournament is very remarkable. And it is very likely to be the motivation that does not give the U22 Vietnam team confidence to enter the 29th SEA Games where the direct opponent is U22 Thailand.
