Six individuals are under investigation for plotting to overthrow the government.
Authorities allege that Nguyen Van Dai and his accomplices were involved in numerous activities aimed at overthrowing the government in Hanoi and several other localities.
On July 30, the Security Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security issued a decision to prosecute and detain six defendants in the case of Nguyen Van Dai and his accomplices, who were involved in activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government in Hanoi and several other localities.
The investigating agency has initiated criminal proceedings against Nguyen Van Dai (48 years old) residing in Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi; Le Thu Ha (35 years old), temporarily residing in Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi; Pham Van Troi (45 years old) residing in Thuong Tin, Hanoi; Nguyen Trung Ton (45 years old) residing in Quang Xuong, Thanh Hoa province; Truong Minh Duc (57 years old) residing in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City; and Nguyen Bac Truyen (49 years old) residing in Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City.
The defendants have been charged and detained on charges of "Activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government," as stipulated in Article 79 of the Penal Code. The case is currently under investigation and being processed according to the law.
Also related to the charge of "Activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government," earlier on the afternoon of July 24, the Nghe An Police arrested Mr. Le Dinh Luong (52 years old, residing in Hop Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district). The investigating agency stated that Le Dinh Luong had "regularly engaged in activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government and causing complications in local security and order."
Article 79: Crime of activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government Anyone who engages in activities to establish or participate in an organization aimed at overthrowing the people's government shall be punished as follows: 1. Those who organize, instigate, actively participate in, or cause serious consequences shall be sentenced to imprisonment from 12 to 20 years, life imprisonment, or the death penalty; 2. Other accomplices will be sentenced to imprisonment from 5 to 15 years. |
