The poverty rate among Catholics in Anh Son is only below 5%.

(Baonghean.vn) - These are the encouraging achievements announced at the 7th Congress of Catholic Delegates for National Construction and Defense held in Anh Son.

On the morning of July 4, the 7th Congress of Catholic Delegates for National Construction and Protection, term 2017 - 2022, took place in Anh Son with the participation of Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Front, district-level departments and organizations, and 90 delegates from Anh Son parishes.

As a midland and mountainous district with 1,879 households, over 8,000 Catholics, accounting for 7% of the district's population, there are 13 communes, towns, 69 villages, and blocks where Catholics live. Over the years, Anh Son Catholics have overcome all difficulties and challenges, contributing significantly to the economic, social, defense, and security development of the district.

Over the past 5 years, implementing the Resolution of the District Party Executive Committee and the policies and guidelines set forth by the Party and State, Anh Son Catholics have achieved encouraging results.

Regarding the service business sector, if at the beginning of the term there were only 37 models, by 2017 the number of good business models had increased to 138. The poverty rate in 2012 was 23%, but now it is only under 5%. The average income per capita of Catholics is from 24 - 26 million VND/year, 2 - 3 million VND higher than the district average. Regarding the contribution to the construction of new rural areas, by the end of 2016, Anh Son district had 5 communes reaching the new rural area target, of which 4 communes had Catholics.

Regarding culture and education, the rate of cultural families and sports families in 2012 among Catholics was only a modest 62%, but now this rate has reached over 89%. The number of Catholic children attending school is 100%. The number of students passing college and university entrance exams increases by 15-20% each year on average, a typical example of this movement is the children of Yen Linh parishioners, with 18 children who have studied and are studying at colleges and universities...

Speaking at the congress, comrade Dang Thanh Tung - Secretary of Anh Son District Party Committee acknowledged the achievements of Catholics. At the same time, he hoped that delegates would carry out the following contents well: continue to widely propagate the policies of the Party and State to all classes of people in general and religious people in particular; continue to build and replicate typical models in the community.

He suggested that people in the Catholic community actively participate in implementing the 10 contents of the campaign to live a good life and follow the religion launched by the Vietnam Catholic Solidarity Committee, and follow the teachings of Pope Benedict XVI: "A good Catholic is also a good citizen"...

On this occasion, the congress elected 13 individuals to join the Anh Son Catholic Solidarity Committee for the 2017-2022 term.
