Working Title Films recently posted images of the set for Johnny English on Twitter, indicating that the film is in production with David Kerr as director. Last May, Rowan Atkinson, known for his role as "Mr. Bean," also confirmed to Chortle that he will be returning to reprise his role as the hilarious spy.

Johnny English first premiered in 2003, centering around MI7 agent Johnny English. The film parodies most of the James Bond formulas in order to entertain audiences. The first installment, starring John Malkovitch, achieved unexpected success, grossing nearly $200 million worldwide.

In 2011, Johnny English returned, grossing nearly as much as the first film but receiving little attention domestically. In the years that followed, with the "renaissance" of spy films, satirical works like Johnny English were mass-produced, so no one thought a sequel would be made.

Rowan Atkinson has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to playing the comedic spy on screen. He believes he's too old to play a naive, goofy character like Mr. Bean, but Johnny English is just right. He stated: "That character is more realistic and believable than James Bond in many ways. James Bond is almost superhuman. I prefer playing a character with flaws."
