(Baonghean.vn) - On June 27, the Philippine government announced that President Rodrigo Duterte is alive and well, and has no health problems. This announcement comes amid concerns about the President's prolonged absence from public view this month and the government's alleged cover-up of the issue.

Speaking to reporters, the President's spokesperson, Ernesto Abella, said: "First and foremost, he is alive and well, very well; he is just busy doing what he needs to do."

Mr. Abella stated: "Because you often see the President appearing in public, but when he's off-camera, that's when he can do office work, sign papers, read, advise, he's really busy. It's very important that he's the one who has to deal with everything, he's aware of what's going on, he's constantly updated."

The Philippine President's press secretary, Martin Andanar, also reassured the public, saying, "People should not worry. Our President is still healthy."

The nonpartisan leader is expected to meet with several cabinet members today and attend an event at the Presidential Palace in Manila marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Eid al-Fitr.

His last public appearance was on June 20th, in two cities near Marawi, where fierce fighting is taking place between rebels and government forces, to visit soldiers and displaced civilians.
