Vietnam - Türkiye aim for trade turnover of 4 billion USD

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim made his first official visit to Vietnam from August 22-24.Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc considered the visit an important historical milestone in the relationship between the two countries, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During today’s talks, the two Prime Ministers affirmed that the two governments are committed to striving to increase trade turnover between the two countries to 4 billion USD by 2020, through increasing investment and trade promotion activities. Mr. Yildirim suggested studying to develop defense industry cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked Turkey to soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy, and at the same time asked Türkiye to abolish many unreasonable taxes on many Vietnamese export products such as footwear, yarn, belts/conveyor belts, air conditioners, mobile phones, etc.

In addition, the two sides also agreed to closely coordinate to promote cooperation in the fields of transportation (especially maritime cooperation, shipbuilding, sailor training; encourage cooperation between airlines of the two countries such as Turkish Airlines and Vietnam Airlines), science - technology, culture - education, exchange and cooperation between universities of the two countries, security - defense and people's diplomacy. Prime Minister Yildirim wants to encourage students of the two countries to study each other's culture and language, and suggested that the two sides consider granting scholarships to each other's students.

GrandfatherYildirimHe proposed that Vietnam support Türkiye's candidacy for the UNESCO Executive Board for the 2017-2021 term. At the same time, he expressed his support for Vietnam to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.

After the talks, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of documents on cooperation and administrative support in the fields of customs, economic zones and quality measurement.
