Vietnam won 4 gold medals at Asian Youth Taekwondo Championship

On June 6, the boxing team competed well to bring home 4 gold medals at the tournament taking place at Military Zone 7 Stadium (HCMC).

With the strength of the content of boxing in the international arena, young Vietnamese martial artists won four gold medals in the content: women's standard team boxing, mixed-women's standard double boxing, mixed-women's creative double boxing, and creative team boxing.

In the women's standard team boxing event, the trio Nguyen Kim Phuong - Le Ngoc Han - Nguyen Thi Minh Anh successfully opened the tournament for host Vietnam. They won the gold medal after two competitions with a total score of 7.865. In the first competition, the three Vietnamese girls scored 7.87 points, in the second competition they scored 7.86 points.

With this very high score, they won the first gold medal for Vietnam at the 2017 Asian Youth Taekwondo Championship. The silver medal belonged to the Thai team with 7,635 points, and the Taiwanese team (China) won the bronze medal with 7,615 points.

Immediately after that, the two athletes Nguyen Kim Phuong and Nguyen Quang Tri showed very good performance even though they were the first athletes to compete in the mixed-pair standard form. After the first form, Kim Phuong - Quang Tri were awarded 7.90 points by the referees. With this score, they were confident in the second form to reach 8.04 points. Thereby, this duo won a total score of 7.970 to continuously lead.

However, Kim Phuong and Quang Tri were also surprised when the Thai duo also scored 7.90 points in the first test. However, in the second test, the two Thai athletes only scored 7.86 points, thereby ranking second with a total score of 7.880 and receiving a silver medal.

In the mixed pair creative boxing event, Nguyen Thi Minh Anh and Bui Anh Tuan won the gold medal with 7.04 points. Then, in the creative team boxing event, Vietnamese athletes won the gold medal with 6.87 points.

In addition, the athletes also won three silver medals: men's standard team boxing (Nguyen Quang Tri - Nguyen Van Dang - Le Nhat Hao), men's individual creative boxing (Nguyen Duc Thinh), women's individual creative boxing (Chau Ngoc Tuyet Sang). In the men's individual standard boxing event, athlete Le Nhat Hao also brought home a bronze medal.

In the combat weight categories, Vietnam had three boxers in the finals: Nguyen Van The Trung (53 kg men), Nguyen Thi Nhu Y (-44 kg women) and Pham Ngoc Cham (-47 kg women). But they all lost to the Iranian athletes.

After the first day of competition on June 6, Vietnam won four gold medals, six silver medals and one bronze medal.

The 2nd Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship and the 2nd Asian Junior Taekwondo Championship in 2017 took place at the Military Zone 7 Sports Center from June 6-7, 2017. There were 176 combat athletes and 101 martial artists from 17 countries and territories competing in 20 individual combat events and nine martial arts events.

When the tournament was first held in Taiwan in April 2015, the Vietnamese taekwondo team won one gold medal and two silver medals and the boxing team won two gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals.

This year, the Asian Taekwondo Association separated the youth and junior tournaments to be held in two locations. The ninth Asian Youth Taekwondo Championship for sparring and the fourth for boxing took place in Kazakhstan from April 19 to April 21, 2017. At this youth tournament, the Vietnamese delegation won three bronze medals for sparring, two gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals for boxing.
