(Baonghean.vn) - News from the People's Committee of Nghia Thai Commune (Tan Ky) said that a tragic drowning incident occurred on the Con River passing through the area on the morning of August 14, causing the death of 2 students.

The two unfortunate students were Thai Duy Tu (born in 2002) and Nguyen Trong Trieu (born in 2000) - residing in Vien Thai 1 hamlet, Nghia Thai commune, Tan Ky district. It is known that Tu was preparing to enter grade 10 and Trieu was preparing to enter grade 12 at Le Loi High School. The two were cousins.

Before that, at around 8am on August 14, Tu and Trieu invited each other to swim the buffalo across the Con River (Bai Den section - Nghia Thai commune) to the other side of the river to graze. When they swam to the middle of the river, the two were swept away by the water and went missing.

When discovering the incident, many people standing on the bank quickly jumped into the river to search for the two children but could not find them.

At 5:00 p.m. the same day, people found Trieu right in the area where he drowned. As for Tu, it was not until 6:30 a.m. this morning (August 15) that he was found, about 12 km away from the accident site.

According to local people, the Con River section passing through the area has recently been heavily exploited for sand and gravel, so the riverbed has many deep holes and whirlpools.

The family has now held a funeral for the two children. Representatives of the Party Committee, government, departments, branches, organizations and people in the commune came to encourage and express condolences to the family.
