Dialogue on safe migration and anti-human trafficking

(Baonghean.vn) - For 2 days (August 24-25), Thanh Chuong Women's Union coordinated with Dong Van and Thanh Linh communes and Thanh Chuong town to organize a dialogue on safe migration and anti-human trafficking for the people.

Attending were representatives of the International Organization for Migration in Vietnam, the Department of Overseas Labor - Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Provincial Migration Information Office.

According to statistics from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Thanh Chuong district, every year the number of people going to work abroad is from 900 to 1000 people, mainly concentrated in the markets of Taiwan, Malaysia and Japan.

Many people have been cheated out of money due to not thoroughly understanding the legal regulations as well as the units sending workers abroad. Along with that, in the past time, in the district, there have been 5 cases of human trafficking to China, mainly concentrated in Thanh Son and Ngoc Lam communes.

Participating in the dialogue in each commune were 400 officials and local people who are planning to work abroad or have worked abroad. Here, people were introduced to knowledge on preventing human trafficking and necessary skills when migrating and looking for work away from home by experts.

The dialogue focused on the following issues: Current status of free migration, procedures, and risks that may be encountered when going to work abroad.Identifying human trafficking tricks, the process of marrying foreigners, and giving birth to children with foreignersLoan mechanisms for labor export for poor households, policy families...

Representatives of the Department of Overseas Labor have disseminated to the people the regulations on which agencies to go to when workers abroad are unfortunately exposed to risks such as accidents, lost passports, etc. to resolve the issue. From there, people will understand and comply with the provisions of the law to prevent possible risks.
