The disabled boy and his dream of integrating into the community
(Baonghean.vn) - Having congenital disabilities, deafness and muteness, and a poor family with no means of treatment, Ngo Duc Son, a 2C student at Thanh Thuy Primary School (Thanh Chuong), has had great difficulty integrating into the community.
Although he is in second grade, Ngo Duc Son is thin and weak. He is mentally disabled and deaf and mute from birth, so it is very difficult for him to play, study and integrate with his peers.
Son's family situation is very difficult, his father died in a traffic accident when he was born. Son's mother is a teacher, raising him alone. He is sick and often has to take medicine, so life is extremely difficult.
Son's mother said that he was born deaf and mute. Instead of the bright features of a child, his gestures and actions were always sluggish. As he grew older, around the age of 6, his eyes gradually dimmed.

Despite the difficulties, the family took Son to many hospitals for treatment. The journey to find light for the child with the poor teacher was extremely arduous. Son had to undergo 6 eye surgeries, the most recent being in August 2017. His eyes suffered from many diseases: cataracts, retinal detachment, glaucoma, glaucoma... Doctors predicted that he was at high risk of permanent blindness.
Son's congenital deafness also gradually worsened; he could only mumble a few unclear words, making communication very difficult.
However, his mother still asked for her son to be allowed to study at the same school where she worked so that they could go to school together every day; helping Son feel less lonely. But he could not study and integrate with his friends and the community.
Sharing about her disabled student, teacher Nguyen Thi Van, head teacher of class 2C at Thanh Thuy Primary School, was moved: "Son cannot write, cannot hear, cannot speak, and sometimes has unconscious actions. But to encourage him and his family, teachers and friends are often close to him and help him in his studies and life."
“The school is located in a border area with many difficulties, so it has not been able to organize integration classes specifically for disabled students. The teachers at the school sympathize with the family's difficult situation and Ms. Nhung's efforts to fulfill her duties well, so they encouraged her to let her go to school to reduce her disadvantage and also help her mother feel secure at work" - said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thai - Vice Principal of Thanh Thuy Primary School.

Talking about her unfortunate son, teacher Nguyen Thi Nhung choked up: “The family took him to many hospitals from district to central level. The doctors concluded that his eyes could not be cured. His speaking ability was also unlikely to improve, but his hearing could be improved with a hearing aid.”
It is known that in 2013, with the help of some organizations and individuals, the family bought a hearing aid for Son, to facilitate his daily life and study, but now the device is broken. He has to endure the situation of not being able to hear, not being able to understand what is happening around him and not being able to express his thoughts.
With a meager teacher salary and many years of having to treat her child's illness, Ms. Nhung's family is now bankrupt and in debt. Son and his mother are living in an old room of a long-abandoned kindergarten. To have more than 30 million to buy a hearing aid to help her child have less difficulty in life and integrate into the community is a distant dream for Son's mother./.
