The new bag design line of luxury Italian brand Marni has left fashionistas speechless because it looks no different from the shopping bags of Asian housewives.

Lately, it seems that fashion designers are copying a lot of common items onto their branded products. While the public is still talking about Ikea's Frakta handbag that looks exactly like a supermarket shopping bag, or Rihanna's expensive New Jelly slippers that look exactly like bathroom slippers... recently, the luxury handbag brand Marni from Italy has released a new design that looks exactly like the grocery bags that mothers in Southeast Asia often use.

Designer brands have had a reputation for looking cheap in the past.

The Marni label was founded in 1994 by Consuelo Castiglioni. Consuelo named her fashion line after her sister Marni. The current head designer of Marni is Fransesco Risso, who used to design at Prada.

The handbag collection they recently launched is especially familiar to Southeast Asian housewives, simply because it looks exactly like the handbags and rattan baskets they often use to go to the market to buy food.

At any local agricultural and food markets, from rural to urban areas, one can easily see these bags, used by mothers to carry vegetables, fish, meat, spices, groceries...

The variety of colors makes the bag look more like a housewife's shopping bag.

With the retail price of such a bag being around 10 million VND, should buyers pay for such a bag that is widely available in the local markets?

A similar shopping bag costs less than 100,000 VND, of course without the Marni brand attached to the bag.
