Winter crop in Quynh Luu brings in over 40 billion VND/year

(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, Quynh Luu district has introduced effective plant varieties into winter crop production and focused on finding output.

In recent years, the people of An Hoa commune (Quynh Luu) have continued to reap success in the winter crop thanks to the introduction of high-yield and high-value crop varieties into cultivation. After harvest, the winter crop products are all purchased by companies. For the past 3 years, the winter crop movement in An Hoa has been really bustling; each household participates in planting at least 2 sao, and at most 5-7 sao of winter crops.

In the 2016 winter crop, with 135 hectares of double-rice land, An Hoa commune structured 70 hectares of sweet corn, 13 hectares of Ando 69 hot pepper, the rest was structured with vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage... Ms. Phuong, a resident of An Hoa commune, said that in the 2016 winter crop, in addition to 1 sao of sweet potato for feed for cows and pigs, she also planted more than 2 sao of sweet corn to sell to Dong Giao Import-Export Company, Ninh Binh province.

For sweet corn varieties, after 70 days of care, the yield is 14 - 16 tons/ha, if well cared for, it can reach about 20 tons/ha; Ando 69 hot peppers with a harvest period lasting 5 months, on average 1 ha yields 30 tons, earning about 200 million VND/ha. Thanks to putting effective crop varieties into production, in the winter crop of 2016, the commune's revenue reached over 10 billion VND.

Mr. Le Van Quyet - Vice Chairman of An Hoa Commune People's Committee said: "The locality has identified the winter crop as the main crop, contributing to increasing income for the people. In order for the winter crop movement to develop as it is now, we have many suitable policies to mobilize people to participate such as bringing effective plant varieties into cultivation, coordinating with enterprises to purchase products; supporting 2 agricultural cooperatives in the area to buy plows to prepare the land with a lower price than the outside price of 30,000 - 40,000 VND/sao. Training and exchanging production experiences for each crop so that people can draw lessons. This winter crop of 2017, the locality will expand the Ado 69 hot pepper variety from 13 hectares to 30 hectares/crop".

In Tan Son commune, one of the localities is also quite sensitive to the winter crop production movement.

Thanks to the focus on developing key crops, the 2016 winter crop yielded high yields; of which bitter melon yielded 1.5 tons/sao, green eggplant 3 tons/sao, climbing beans 1 ton/sao, cucumber 3 tons/sao... Tan Son's total revenue from winter crops reached more than 15.5 billion VND.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Truc, an agricultural officer of Tan Son commune, said that in addition to organizing the production of goods, the commune always focuses on promoting the brand of safe vegetable production according to VietGAP process. At the same time, it expands the market, links production groups with units that collect and consume winter crop products; strengthens state management of the use of pesticides, fertilizers, etc. Along with that, the locality has more than 100 trucks specializing in transporting vegetables for consumption, supplying the market in the province and the provinces of Hue, Da Nang, Hanoi, etc.

In 2016, Quynh Luu district planted nearly 3,600 hectares of winter crops, mainly corn with 1,077 hectares, vegetables of all kinds more than 1,800 hectares; the rest were peanuts and other crops. The yield and output of some crops were higher than the same period in 2015. During the production process, many localities structured crops in the direction of linking commodity production, associated with product consumption.

Some communes have boldly built a winter commodity production model on 2-rice land to bring high income such as growing bitter melon and beans with an area of ​​60 hectares, yield of 300 tons/ha, total income of 210 million VND/ha, profit of 100 million VND/ha in Tan Son commune. Growing Sugar 75 corn linked to commodity production in An Hoa commune, area of ​​20 hectares, yield of 110 tons/ha, total income of 48 million VND/ha, profit of 35 million VND/ha. Growing aromatic squash in Quynh Giang commune on 2-rice land, area of ​​1 hectare, total income of 600 million VND/ha. Implementing the 2017 winter crop production plan, Quynh Luu has a production structure of about 3,810 hectares. For corn sowing season, it starts from September 5 and ends on October 10, depending on the soil conditions of each region. For peanuts, sowing ends on September 10; vegetables are arranged from September onwards and planted in multiple batches/crop...

According to Mr. Dau Duc Nam - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district, in preparation for the 2017 winter crop production, the district encourages communes to integrate and use rice land support resources and other policies to build commodity production models, large fields associated with cooperation, linking production - consumption of agricultural products, bringing in machinery, land preparation machines, and harvesting in the winter crop. The district People's Committee also supports 20% of the price of corn seeds, 50% of the price of green squash and pumpkin seeds grown on 2-rice land.
