State Bank responds to the prosecution of former Deputy Governor Dang Thanh Binh

Regarding the decision by the Investigation Police Agency, Ministry of Public Security to prosecute Mr. Dang Thanh Binh, former Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), on the evening of September 8, a representative of SBV said that this does not affect the management of monetary policy and banking activities.

The State Bank's leaders affirmed: They will closely coordinate with the investigation agency when requested in accordance with the law and need to wait for the official conclusion from the authorities.

Mr. Binh was identified as being involved in an economic case that caused a loss of 9,000 billion VND to Mr. Pham Cong Danh and his accomplices at the Construction Bank.

Previously, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency had just decided to prosecute Mr. Dang Thanh Binh, former Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, to clarify the act of Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences. The Supreme People's Procuracy approved the decision to prosecute the accused Dang Thanh Binh (born in 1954) to investigate the act of Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences under Article 285 of the Penal Code. Mr. Binh was banned from leaving his place of residence.

The Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency is investigating the case of Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences occurring at the State Bank's Supervisory Team located at the Construction Bank and a number of units and organizations under the State Bank.
