On July 26, US President Donald Trump continued to publicly criticize Attorney General Jeff Sessions, questioning why Mr. Sessions did not fire acting Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Andrew McCabe when his wife received $700,000 from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to conduct political campaigns.

White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci admitted that President Trump may be looking to fire Mr. Sessions.

Mr Trump's repeated attacks on Mr Sessions have not won the support of even the president's supporters like former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said Sessions was doing a good job and made the right decision not to participate in the Russia investigation.

The conflict between the two sides began in March when Mr. Sessions voluntarily withdrew from the investigation into suspected Russian interference in the 2016 US election without consulting the President, and Mr. Trump learned of this just minutes before Sessions announced the decision.

Sessions recused himself from the investigation after the Washington Post revealed that he had met twice with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, but did not report it to the Senate Judiciary Committee during a hearing in January 2017.

Mr. Sessions was chosen by President Trump and his participation in the investigation would benefit Mr. Trump. Therefore, Mr. Sessions' withdrawal from the investigation is a great disappointment to Mr. Trump.

After the incident, Mr. Trump frequently criticized Mr. Sessions at several cabinet meetings and on Twitter./.
