Japanese Prime Minister Discusses North Korea Issue with US General

According to THX, on August 18, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received and discussed with Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, about the Japan-US alliance and regional tensions.

During the meeting, General Dunford assured Prime Minister Abe that the bilateral alliance between the two countries remains strong. He was quoted as emphasizing: "The nature of the bilateral relationship, especially at the military level, is strong."

For his part, Prime Minister Abe expressed to Mr. Dunford that he hopes to cooperate to further strengthen the Japan-US alliance amid concerns about rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula./.
