Vietnam sends condolences over Barcelona terrorist attack (Spain)

President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent condolences to the King and Prime Minister of Spain.

Upon hearing of the terrorist attack that occurred on the afternoon of August 17 in Barcelona (Spain) that killed and injured many people, on August 18, President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent condolences to King Felipe VI of Spain and Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy of Spain.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh also sent condolences to Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Alfonso Dartis.

On August 18, 2017, regarding the above attack, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang stated: “We would like to send our deepest condolences to the State, Government and people of the Kingdom of Spain and the families of the victims in the terrorist attack on August 17, 2017.

Vietnam strongly condemns terrorist attacks in all forms and believes that these acts must be severely punished according to the law."

Responding to a reporter's question about whether there were any Vietnamese victims of the terrorist attack, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said: "Immediately after receiving news of the attacks in Barcelona, ​​Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Spain to immediately work with local authorities to find out information related to the Vietnamese citizens in distress in order to take citizen protection measures.

On the morning of August 18, the Vietnamese Embassy in Spain said that according to local information, there is currently no information that the victim is Vietnamese. The Embassy is currently closely following related developments to promptly take protective measures in case it is determined that a Vietnamese citizen is a victim in the attack.
