1. Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler was one of the most notorious dictators in history. This Nazi leader caused the bloody massacre of more than 6 million Jews during World War II.
The dictator Hitler also committed a series of other horrific crimes, most notably dragging Germany into World War II – one of the bloodiest and most devastating wars in human history.
2. Pol Pot

Pol Pot, also known as Saloth Sar, is considered a notoriously cruel leader worldwide. Serving as Prime Minister of Cambodia from 1976 to 1979, Pol Pot plunged Cambodia into the Khmer Rouge genocide. It is estimated that approximately 1.7 million innocent Cambodians died as a result of Pol Pot's genocide.
Of those, approximately 20,000 died from starvation, thirst, and exhaustion during the mass migration that forced people from cities to rural areas, or were shot dead.
3. Benito Mussolini

Benito Mussolini, the Italian dictator, became Prime Minister of Italy in 1922. Since coming to power, Mussolini committed a series of unforgettable crimes. He led Italy down the path of fascism.
During World War II, Mussolini was a close ally of Nazi dictator Hitler, committing a series of atrocities and plunging humanity into the bloody World War II. For his crimes, Mussolini was executed in 1945 and his body was hanged in Milan.
4. Augusto Pinochet

Augusto Pinochet was the former dictatorial president of Chile. Pinochet appointed himself president of Chile in 1974 after staging a coup in 1973.
During his 16 years in power, President Pinochet carried out numerous political crackdowns, killing 3,000 Chilean citizens and imprisoning tens of thousands more.
5. Saddam Hussein

Saddam Hussein, President of Iraq from 1979 to 2003, was a world-renowned dictator. He was captured by the United States and subsequently put on trial. Ultimately, he was convicted of "crimes against humanity" for the massacre of over 150 people in the northern Iraqi town of Dujail in 1982.
Saddam Hussein was also convicted of carrying out the extermination of approximately 200,000 Kurds in 1988 using chemical weapons. On December 30, 2006, Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging in Baghdad, Iraq.
