Currently, in Tan Ky district, there are 172 manual and improved manual brick kilns that need to be eliminated according to the roadmap. Of which: 151 brick kilns; 3 continuous vertical brick kilns; 18 brick kilns converted to exhaust gas treatment technology; mainly concentrated in Nghia Hoan and Ky Son communes.

Mr. Vi Van Quang - Head of Tan Ky Infrastructure Economic Department said: In recent times, manual brick and tile kilns, improved manual kilns and continuous vertical manual kilns have made an important contribution to ensuring the source of construction materials in the area, annually supplying millions of products to the market, creating jobs and increasing income for people.

However, according to the roadmap of the Provincial People's Committee, by December 31, 2017, the district will stop and eliminate traditional manual brick and tile kilns and manual kilns with improved emission treatment technology in Tan Ky district. By December 31, 2020, the continuous vertical manual brick kilns will be stopped and eliminated.

The district is mobilizing the owners of the facilities to sign a commitment to voluntarily dismantle the handmade brick and tile kilns according to the determined schedule and plan. The demolition and forced removal of the handmade brick and tile kilns will be organized according to regulations. At the same time, it is not allowed to continue the land lease contract for brick and tile production; planning the area for the production of construction materials, including unburnt construction materials.

However, in reality, most of the current handmade brick and tile kilns are owned by farmers who are still facing many difficulties. Therefore, to eliminate them, it is necessary to have appropriate policies such as career conversion counseling, new job training for farmers and workers at handmade brick kilns in the area, and support mechanisms for businesses and cooperatives to produce bricks using new technology, avoiding negative impacts on the environment, ensuring the implementation of the policy of eliminating handmade brick kilns in the province.
