The base at Fort Greely is tasked with neutralizing missiles headed toward the US and is seen as America's defense against threats from North Korea.

At the Missile Defense Complex in Fort Greely, Alaska, 38 missiles are ready to launch to intercept threats against the United States. The unit will be supplemented with six more missiles before the end of the year.

"We are trained to fire missiles at a missile to destroy it so it doesn't destroy us," said Orlando Ortega, the base's commander. "North Korea is really becoming more aggressive with their testing and threats."

According to CNN, all soldiers are confident in their ability to intercept intercontinental ballistic missiles, even though the success rate is 60%. In 18 tests, the interceptor missiles hit the target 10 times."We have failures, but we learn from them," said Senator Dan Sullivan.

Members of the 49th Missile Defense Battalion atFort GreelyCall them 300 soldiers protecting 300 million Americans in all 50 states.

"It's only a matter of time before North Korea has an intercontinental nuclear missile. "You can't do nothing in the face of such a threat, and I think most Americans agree with me."
