Thrilling story of husband admitting adultery to help wife reduce prison sentence

The poor village of Cao Son (Anh Son) was peaceful like many other poor villages in Nghe An. Suddenly one day, screams, curses, and cries for help rang out in the house of Mr. Lam and Ms. Hoa. People saw Ms. Hong being helped out of Ms. Hoa's house by a relative with many wounds on her head, arms, and legs. Many people were bewildered, not understanding what had happened. "Informed people" began to whisper, as if they had known this outcome in advance.

Up until now, Ms. Hoa has always suspected that there was something fishy between Mr. Lam and the female neighbor. Some people also said that she was good at guessing, Ms. Hong was almost 50 years old this year, had a husband and children, and was not a beautiful woman. Especially when she determined that the owner of this strange phone number was the neighbor in her fifties. Several times when she questioned her husband, Hoa even received a few painful slaps that made her dizzy.

There were also times when Hoa called that number, the two women had an argument, but because there was no evidence, Hoa could do nothing. That day, after returning from a wedding, she read a love message on her husband's phone. Hoa became jealous and called to "insult" her love rival. A moment later, Mrs. Hong came to the house, asking Hoa to come to her house "to have a three-way argument". After a while of arguing, Mrs. Hong slapped Hoa, Hoa stepped back and grabbed a knife...

As a result, Ms. Hong suffered 15% damage to her health. When the district court brought the case of “Intentional Infliction of Injury” in which Hoa was the defendant to trial, many villagers came to watch. In court, Hoa also presented the cause of the incident but Ms. Hong did not accept it, and her husband also denied adultery. Hoa was sentenced to 2 years in prison…

After this incident, her husband was kinder to his wife, more loving and caring for the family. But she still felt resentful, because from being a victim of cuckolding, she had to serve 2 years in prison. During her time in prison, who took care of her 2 young children, who knew if her husband and the neighbor, when she was away, did anything against morality...

Feeling that she was wronged, she appealed. On the day of her trial, she admitted that her actions were wrong but hoped that the judges would thoroughly consider the root cause of the incident. On the other side, Ms. Hong did not appeal, nor did she request in court that the person who injured her be severely punished. Of course, she did not admit to having a relationship with the man nearly twenty years her junior. Her statements all tried to prove that Hoa was a jealous person, good at speculation and not afraid to beat people.

Sitting and listening to the two women blaming each other, most of the story related to him, Mr. Lam seemed to have no special reaction. The argument between the two women probably would not come to an end because each had their own reasons.

“I will tell you the truth!” Mr. Lam said. Perhaps this man had to think a lot because no one wanted to admit to an affair. “Mrs. Hong and I had a relationship, from 2 years ago.” The reason Lam did not dare to admit it in the first instance trial was to save face for himself and Mrs. Hong. But now, witnessing the scene of his old lover trying to push his wife into prison, this man decided to make everything public.

In the dock, Hoa’s eyes were red and her shoulders were drooping. Her husband was having an affair! Lam’s confession could have “saved” her from a two-year prison sentence, but it gave the marriage she was trying to keep another sentence. The judge in charge of the trial determined that the defendant Hoa’s crime was clear and did not need further discussion.

However, the cause of this incident has not been considered by the court of first instance. Although Ms. Hong did not admit to this relationship, Lam's assertion shows that Ms. Hoa's jealousy was well-founded. Ms. Hong was the one who came to the house to curse and threaten to beat Hoa first, causing the defendant to suffer from long-standing resentment leading to the crime.

Defendant Hoa has a good character, her two children are still young and need someone to take care of them, so isolating her is unnecessary. After the incident, the defendant also compensated the victim through the district civil judgment enforcement agency.

Considering the entire case, the panel of judges decided to accept the appeal, amend the first instance judgment, sentence the defendant Hoa to 15 months in prison but with a suspended sentence, 30 months probation, and compensate the victim more than 19 million VND.
