Quynh Luu: Calling on 100% of boats to anchor to avoid storm number 4

(Baonghean.vn) - According to forecasts, storm No. 4 will directly affect Nghe An, causing heavy rain and strong winds. In the face of this situation, Quynh Luu district has called on 100% of boats to anchor and take shelter from the storm at the estuaries.

After storm No. 2 had just passed, fishermen in Quynh Luu urgently prepared their fishing gear to go out to sea to catch seafood. However, the boats had to return to port just a few days after leaving the sea to avoid storm No. 4 which was forecast to make landfall directly in the Central region.

Upon receiving information about storm No. 4, the Flood and Storm Prevention and Search and Rescue Committee of Quynh Luu district, functional forces and localities called on 100% of boats to anchor and take shelter from the storm safely at the estuaries.

Having just returned to the port to avoid storm number 2, Mr. Bui Van Thu and his crew on the fishing boat NA 95789TS urgently set sail after the storm. After 3 days and 2 nights of fishing, with a yield of about 5 tons of various seafood, the boat had to return to Lach Quen port to avoid storm number 4.

After importing seafood for traders, to prevent storm No. 4, Mr. Thu and his crew members dropped anchor and tied ropes to stabilize the ship's position; at the same time, they checked the machinery and equipment on the ship and proactively took measures to protect the ship in case the storm made landfall directly.

Currently, most of the boats and ships of Quynh Luu district have anchored to avoid storm No. 4 safely at Lach Thoi and Lach Quen estuaries. Although they have just set sail a few days after storm No. 2, and some boats were even on their way to the fishing grounds, upon hearing the news of storm No. 4, especially the call from the functional forces and local authorities, most of the boats and ships have returned to the anchorage.

Together with the authorities, the ships have assigned crew members to be on duty 24/7 to monitor and check the mooring of boats at the wharf, avoiding collisions and damage that cause economic losses. Mr. Nguyen Van Hai - Crew member of fishing boat NA 92836TS, Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district said: "This trip has been gone for 3 days and then returned. When we heard that storm No. 4 had all the ships return, we assigned people to look after the ships at the wharf to avoid the storm."

As of 7:00 p.m. last night, July 24, 1,152 out of 1,152 boats of Quynh Luu district had safely come ashore to take shelter from the storm in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

Mr. Dau Duc Nam - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said: To proactively prevent storm No. 4, the district has issued telegram No. 6 to direct communes and units in the area, in which it is noted to be on duty 24/24 to report on developments to promptly respond; Announce on mass media so that people are mentally prepared to fight the storm, minimizing damage.

After taking shelter from storm No. 4, the district directed localities to check the anchoring and mooring of fishing boats to avoid collisions when there are big waves and strong winds; at the same time, people living near the sea need to proactively prepare plans to evacuate people and secure their houses before the storm makes landfall./.
