Prime Minister attends special release ceremony of General Vo Nguyen Giap postage stamp set
This morning, August 25, in Quang Binh province, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the special release ceremony of the postage stamp set "General Vo Nguyen Giap (1911 - 2013)".

This event was organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the People's Committee of Quang Binh province, on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the General's birthday (August 25, 1911 - August 25, 2017).
At the ceremony, introducing the life and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan emphasized that the stamp set is a multi-dimensional message, containing many meanings, introducing to the people of the whole country, international friends and the Vietnamese community abroad about the life of General Vo Nguyen Giap and the glorious history of our nation.
The special issuance of the stamp set not only commemorates, pays tribute to and honors the great contributions of the People's General, but also contributes to the propaganda and education of patriotism and further understanding of Vietnamese history among the people, especially the young generation.
General Vo Nguyen Giap (August 25, 1911 - October 4, 2013), Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People's Army, was one of the military geniuses, an excellent and close student of President Ho Chi Minh.
During the two long resistance wars, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the great President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap participated in and commanded many important campaigns, contributing with the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army to make resounding historical victories. He is considered one of the most outstanding military leaders in history, and is revered by generations of cadres and soldiers as the Elder Brother of the Vietnam People's Army.

The stamp set includes 1 stamp and 1 stamp block, depicting the portrait of General Vo Nguyen Giap with a friendly, close, and simple smile in a military uniform of the 70s. Using a realistic writing style, the stamp depicts the spirit of a steadfast communist soldier, a talented and resourceful general, and an excellent military strategist of the Vietnamese people. The stamp background is an image of the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu, one of the brilliant peaks, a glorious feat of the Ho Chi Minh era and the Gold Star Medal - a noble reward of the Party and State awarded to the General in 1992.

The stamp block also depicts the General's portrait on the background of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army - the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army. The stamp is designed with no overflow, 43x32 mm in size, and is provided on the public postal network of the Vietnam Post Corporation, meeting the needs of stamp users as well as stamp collectors.

The stamp set is available on the public postal network from August 25, 2017 to June 30, 2019.
At the ceremony, the Prime Minister signed and stamped the Special Issue Cover of the stamp set.
