Flight delay of 6 hours or more must take care of food and accommodation for guests

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just announced regulations on passenger service for delayed, interrupted or canceled flights.

In case of flight delay or interruption of scheduled transportation for 6 hours or more (from 7:00 a.m. to before 10:00 p.m.), accommodation must be arranged in accordance with the actual conditions of the airport.

Specifically, airlines must provide information on flight status to airport enterprises, passenger terminal service providers, ground technical commercial service providers, and airport authorities where flight delays or cancellations occur.

Arrange staff to notify and organize the provision of services that passengers are entitled to according to regulations, resolve questions and needs of passengers based on the actual situation at the airport and regulations of law.

In case of flight delay or interruption of scheduled transportation of 15 minutes or more compared to the flight schedule, airlines are responsible for informing passengers of information related to the flight, specifically as follows:

- Reasons for delays and disruptions in transportation.

- Estimated take-off time or alternative flight plan.

- Passenger service plan; passenger assistance department.

- Sorry passenger.

In case a passenger has been confirmed on a flight but the transportation is delayed, interrupted or canceled, the airline is responsible for serving the passenger according to the following regulations:

- 2 hours late must serve drinks.

- Delays of 3 hours or more must be served with meals; delays of 6 hours or more (from 7:00 a.m. to before 10:00 p.m.) must be arranged with accommodation suitable to the actual conditions of the airport.

- For delays of 6 hours or more (from 10pm the previous day to before 7am the next day), sleeping and resting accommodations must be arranged in accordance with local conditions or alternative solutions must be found with the passenger's consent.

At the same time, airlines must change passenger itineraries within the scope of their services so that passengers can reach their final destination as quickly and conveniently as possible.

Đối với chuyến bay nội địa có độ dài đường bay dưới 500 km: 200.000 VNĐ; từ 500 km đến dưới 1.000 km: 300.000 VNĐ; từ 1.000 km trở lên: 400.000 VNĐ.
For domestic flights with a flight length of less than 500 km: 200,000 VND; from 500 km to less than 1,000 km: 300,000 VND; from 1,000 km or more: 400,000 VND.

Current regulations on compensation for flight delays and cancellations are stated in Circular 14/2015 as follows:

For domestic flights:

- Flights with a route length of less than 500 km: 200,000 VND

- Flight length from 500 km to under 1,000 km: 300,000 VND

- Flight length from 1,000 km or more: 400,000 VND.

For international flights:

- Flights with a route length of less than 1,000 km: 25 USD.

- Flight length from 1,000 km to under 2,500 km: 50 USD.

- Flight length from 2,500 km to under 5,000 km: 80 USD.

- Flight length from 5,000 km or more: 150 USD.
