Man who stabbed town secretary receives 24-month prison sentence.

The Ky Son District People's Court sentenced Nguyen Manh Hung, who stabbed the town secretary at the office, to 24 months in prison for intentionally causing injury.

On the afternoon of September 18th, Mr. Nguyen Van Lu, Chief Judge of the Ky Son District People's Court, Hoa Binh province, announced that Nguyen Manh Hung - the man who stabbed the town secretary at the headquarters - had been sentenced by the court to 24 months in prison for intentionally causing injury.

The preliminary hearing took place on September 15th at the cultural center of Zone 3, Ky Son town, Hoa Binh province. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khuyen, Secretary of Ky Son town, submitted a request for absence.

Nguyen Manh Hung (42 years old) is a drug addict undergoing community-based rehabilitation. On the morning of May 16th, the Ky Son town police discovered the defendant showing signs of drug use on the street and brought him to the station for warning and education.

While waiting for the Ky Son District Police to arrive, Hung asked to go home to wash his face and take medicine. About 15 minutes later, the defendant returned to the headquarters, pulled out a knife, and stabbed Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khuyen three times, who was standing in the headquarters' lobby at the time.

Subsequently, Hung was apprehended on the spot, while the town secretary was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. Forensic examination revealed that Mr. Khuyen suffered a 12% loss of health.

In court, Hung expressed remorse for his crime and asked the judges to consider mitigating circumstances to reduce his criminal liability.

The court sentenced defendant Nguyen Manh Hung to 24 months in prison. Regarding civil liability, defendant Hung must compensate the victim 20 million VND.
