The man who stabbed the town secretary received 24 months in prison.

Ky Son District People's Court sentenced Nguyen Manh Hung, the man who stabbed the town party secretary at the headquarters, to 24 months in prison for intentionally causing injury.

On the afternoon of September 18, Mr. Nguyen Van Lu, Chief Justice of the People's Court of Ky Son district, Hoa Binh province, said that Nguyen Manh Hung - the man who stabbed the town secretary at the headquarters - had just been sentenced by the People's Court to 24 months in prison for intentionally causing injury.

The first instance trial took place on September 15, at the cultural house of Zone 3, Ky Son town, Hoa Binh province. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khuyen, Secretary of Ky Son town, submitted a request to be absent.

Nguyen Manh Hung (42 years old) is a drug addict who is in the process of being rehabilitated in the community. On the morning of May 16, the Ky Son town police discovered that the defendant had signs of using drugs on the street, so they brought him to the headquarters for re-education.

While waiting for the Ky Son District Police to arrive, Hung asked to go home to wash his face and take medicine. About 15 minutes later, the defendant returned to the headquarters and stabbed Nguyen Quoc Khuyen three times, who was standing in the lobby of the headquarters.

Hung was then restrained on the spot, while the town secretary was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. According to a forensic examination, Mr. Khuyen suffered 12% health damage.

In court, Hung repented of his crime and asked the panel of judges to consider reducing his criminal liability.

The jury sentenced defendant Nguyen Manh Hung to 24 months in prison. Regarding civil liability, defendant Hung must compensate the victim 20 million VND.
