The Central Eye Hospital required a female doctor at the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department to write a report and suspend her professional activities after she put her feet on a chair to talk to a patient's family.

Recently, the public shared a video of a father from Quang Ninh taking his son, Do Ngoc VA, to the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department of the Central Eye Hospital for a check-up. The father was upset that the female doctor only examined his son's eyes without using a machine and then concluded that he had severe myopia.

The father then confronted the female doctor and asked for a re-examination. The female doctor put her feet up on a chair and explained to the family that depending on the disease, if the doctor found it sufficient, the machine would not be needed, and the doctor would be responsible for this. At the request of the patient's family, the female doctor signed a paper to consult at a higher level.

Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health Luong Ngoc Khue called the hotline of the Central Eye Hospital, requesting an explanation about this video.

Last night, Director of the Central Eye Hospital Nguyen Xuan Hiep gave an initial explanation. According to him, the hospital has established a working group to verify the incident that occurred on the morning of July 21. The person reflected in the clip is female Dr. Nguyen Thi M.

The working group asked Dr. M. to write a report and early yesterday afternoon, the working group and the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department reviewed the incident.

Hospital leaders said that Dr. M.'s sitting posture while talking to the patient's family was not in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health as well as the Central Eye Hospital, causing discomfort to the patient as well as affecting the image of medical staff when interacting with patients.

Regarding the comments about Dr. M's inappropriate attitude during the examination, the hospital requested Dr. M. to temporarily stop working and write a report to continue clarifying the incident.

“In light of the above incident, the hospital would like to accept the patient's feedback, seriously learn from the experience and sincerely apologize to the patient and their family,” said Mr. Hiep.

Mr. Hiep added that after receiving the report from the working group, the hospital will seriously handle Dr. M. depending on the level of violation./.
