General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visits MyTel telecommunications company in Yangon

According to the special correspondent of VNA, within the framework of the state visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, on the morning of August 26, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Vice President of Myanmar U Myint Swe visited and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the MyTel Company (Telecom International Myanmar) Headquarters Office in Yangon city.

After listening to the report on Mytel's operations in Myanmar, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong acknowledged and congratulated MyTel's initial successes.

The General Secretary said that the state visit to Myanmar was a great success. The two sides established a comprehensive cooperative partnership, creating new momentum to promote the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Myanmar to develop more deeply and comprehensively. Viettel Group has a great reputation and prestige not only in the telecommunications industry, but also in economic activities in general.

After more than 27 years of establishment and development, Viettel has become a strong corporation, making great contributions to the economy. In 2016, with a revenue of more than 11 billion USD and a profit of nearly 2 billion USD, Viettel contributed 1.7 billion USD to the State budget.

Viettel also invested abroad early and effectively, currently investing in 11 countries across 3 continents, with market coverage of up to 320 million people, bringing in annual revenue of up to 1.5 billion USD, a growth rate of over 20%/year, creating jobs for more than 11,000 workers.

In the Myanmar market, Viettel continues to be one of the important bridges of friendship and cooperation, contributing to the common socio-economic development of the two countries. At the time of its launch, MyTel was the network operator with the largest infrastructure in Myanmar with nearly 7,200 stations covering 90% of Myanmar's population.

The General Secretary congratulated MyTel on its establishment and initial operations in Myanmar. This is a good opportunity to consider future business directions; to effectively implement the cooperation agreements that have been reached, not only in the economic and trade fields, but also with special attention to politics and diplomacy, contributing to promoting the friendly relations and good cooperation between the two countries.

The General Secretary especially noted that MyTel does not pursue profits alone, but through business activities, affirms and enhances the prestige of Vietnamese people, Vietnamese culture, and Vietnamese values. Viettel is a military unit with effective economic activities and has affirmed its prestige, how to spread from Viettel to Mytel.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong thanked the Government and partners of Myanmar for creating favorable conditions for MyTel to deploy investment and business activities, achieving initial results.

On this occasion, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Myanmar Vice President U Myint Swe witnessed MyTel signing a cooperation agreement with the Myanmar Ministry of Education on supporting Internet connection for more than 1,350 schools, cooperating in developing education management software, and equipping computers for general schools./.
