26 years in prison for two young men who killed someone at a bar

(Baonghean.vn) - On September 1, the Provincial People's Court opened the first instance criminal trial of Le Hong Trung (born 1984) and Chu Dinh Duong (born 1993), both residing in Nghi Tan ward, Cua Lo town, for the crime of murder.

At around 9pm on March 17, 2017, Le Hong Trung, Chu Dinh Duong and some friends went to Golden Sea bar (Cua Lo town) to drink beer and listen to music. At 11pm, Trung asked the bar staff to pay the bill. He claimed that the staff charged him more for beer than the beer Trung and his group drank, so an argument broke out between the two sides.

The bar's security guard reminded them not to stand and argue in front of the lobby, as it would affect the customers entering the bar. Chu Dinh Duong came and told the staff, "Let Trung come down tomorrow to settle the bill." At this time, Nguyen Van Hung (a customer at the bar) passed by and told Duong, "It's none of your business." Duong retorted, "If it's not my business, then is it yours?" Hung kicked Duong in the shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground.

Seeing Duong being beaten by Hung, Le Hong Trung said, "Go ahead, I'll take care of it." When Trung insisted, "I'll take care of it," Duong pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Hung in the stomach. The victim was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment but did not survive due to the severity of his injuries. When Hung was taken to the hospital, Le Hong Trung was still standing in front of the room, ordering his "underlings": "Whoever is rude, we'll kill them."

At the trial, the defendants admitted their crimes. The panel sentenced Chu Dinh Duong to 15 years in prison and Le Hong Trung to 11 years in prison for “Murder”, and ordered the defendants to compensate the victim 160 million VND.
