Hyundai has revealed a preview of its new hydrogen-powered SUV that will replace the Tucson FCV in the future. This is considered a closer version of the commercial vehicle version of the FE Fuel Cell concept that the Korean carmaker debuted earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show.

It is known that Hyundai's multi-purpose vehicle that only "emits" water vapor will be equipped with the 4th generation hydrogen fuel cell technology developed by this company. The new generation increases energy conversion efficiency to 60% for an operating range of up to 579 km per refueling.

In addition, the car's capacity has also increased by 20% compared to its predecessor, the Tucson FCV, which produced 161 horsepower. Now the driver can also start the car in weather as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius, and the fuel tank can withstand compression better than before.

The Tucson FCV is one of the first hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to be produced commercially, although sales are still very limited due to the lack of infrastructure. However, Hyundai sees this as a potential vehicle in the context of fierce competition for electric vehicles.

Hyundai said it will further advance its role in hydrogen fuel cell technology. The automaker's research and development efforts focus on increasing energy conversion efficiency, durability, and reducing size and weight to make it applicable to smaller sedans.
