Rolls-Royce announced that it is developing a 700-ton autonomous patrol vessel that can operate for up to 100 days at sea without an operator. Since it has no crew, it will be cheaper and more compact than conventional patrol vessels, Sputnik reported on September 16.

"The ship can perform single missions such as coastal patrol and reconnaissance, logistics support, minesweeping and protection of other assets," Rolls Royce said. This patrol ship can also become a platform to transport and deploy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), a new form of warfare in the 21st century.

Each ship is 60 meters long, has a continuous range of 5,600 km and a maximum speed of 46 km/h. Rolls Royce plans to equip the ship with a series of sensors and artificial intelligence systems to control the ship, instead of relying on a remote operator like other unmanned ship models. The ship uses two electric motors when maximum speed is needed, along with many solar panels when traveling at low speed./.
