Check out 5 car models that didn't sell a single one all month

July 25, 2017 16:57

According to the sales report of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), there are 5 brands that contribute to the list of 10 worst-selling car models in the first 6 months of this year.

Among them, Suzuki has the strongest presence with 3 car models; Mekong, Mitsubishi and Honda each brand contributes 2 car models; Kia surprisingly returns with the only representative despite being absent for a short time.

In June alone, 5 out of 10 car models did not sell a single unit.

Surprisingly, the two slowest-selling cars in the market belong to the Mitsubishi duo. In the past 6 months, the 7-seat SUV Pajero only achieved a sales volume of 5 units. Right behind the Pajero is the "younger brother" SUV Outlander Sport with 15 units sold.

In the Vietnamese automobile market, Mitsubishi Pajero and later Outlander Sport are both well-known models among consumers. However, it seems that the Japanese automobile brand is making wrong assessments about the market, causing both Pajero and Outlander Sport to gradually become the most unsold models on the market.

The fact that Pajero and Outlander Sport are pushed into the two least popular positions is even more regrettable in the context of multi-purpose vehicle segments becoming increasingly popular in Vietnam.

In contrast to Pajero and Outland Sport, the popularity of the Mekong duo Pronto and Premio is much lower. It can even be said that most consumers only know about these two models when they appear in the worst-selling car statistics tables. However, in the first half of this year, the Mekong duo Pronto and Premio took the 5th and 6th positions.

The reappearance of the 5-seat SUV Kia Sportage is also a surprise. According to research, Thaco Kia has stopped selling the car model considered the most failed of the Korean brand in the Vietnamese market for a while. But in June 2017, VAMA's report showed the name Sportage again with 24 cars sold, which is also the sales volume of the entire first half of the year. Therefore, after the sudden reappearance in the list of cars with poor sales in the first half of the year, Kia Sportage may "disappear" again.

Among the 5 brands that made the list of the worst-selling cars in the past 6 months, Suzuki is a difficult name to understand. Not only does it have the largest number of cars, but all 3 Suzuki models are models that have been launched on the market recently. This shows a point somewhat similar to fellow brand Mitsubishi, which is that Suzuki also seems to be misjudging the market.

Grand Vitara was born after its "brother" Vitara and is considered a replacement version. However, until now, although Vitara does not sell well, it has always achieved better sales than Grand Vitara. Meanwhile, both Ciaz and Ertiga are new names and were brought in by Suzuki with the expectation of creating a breakthrough. The problem is, all 3 of these models, although the Japanese car company had high expectations at the time of launch, Suzuki's awkwardness and partly overconfidence made their competitiveness not good, especially when placed next to direct competitors who are very successful in the market.

There is not much to discuss about the Honda duo. The appearance of Odyssey and Accord in the list of the worst-selling cars is simply because these are two models that are not for the majority. Besides, Honda also focuses on developing the brand for Odyssey and Accord, while the sales task is taken care of by other names such as City, CR-V or Civic.

The list of 10 worst-selling cars in the first half of 2017 also lacked a representative of the Toyota brand. The high-end off-road vehicle Land Cruiser200 used to be included in this unhappy list, but now, after a period of good growth, it is no longer "dragged" in.

According to VAMA’s report, only 3 models in the Top 10 slowest-selling cars exceeded the 100-unit production mark, including Suzuki Ciaz, Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Accord. In June alone, 5/10 models did not sell a single unit.
