Philippine presidential bodyguard shot dead at work

A shooting occurred today, September 26, in an area near the residence of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte in the capital Manila, killing one of his bodyguards, Reuters quoted Mr. Duterte's spokesman as saying.

According toReutersPhilippine President Mike Aquino's security spokesman said the incident occurred at Malacanang Park, the base of President Duterte's bodyguard unit near his residence in Malacanang Palace.

Mr. Lope Dagoy, head of President Duterte's bodyguard force, said that the body of this bodyguard was discovered by his family at his workplace in Malacanang Park, near President Duterte's residence. The victim died from a wound to the chest.

A Palace official said President Duterte was not present at the time of the shooting.

Mr. Mike Aquino added that the security unit is investigating the incident and there is currently no further related information.
