Prime Minister receives Ambassadors attending the Mekong Delta Sustainable Development Conference

The Prime Minister proposed promoting cooperation between Vietnam and other countries in building a sustainable development model for the Mekong Delta.

On the sidelines of the conference on sustainable development of the Mekong Delta in response to climate change, on the morning of September 27 in Can Tho city, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Ambassadors and representatives of several diplomatic agencies in Vietnam to propose promoting cooperation between Vietnam and other countries in building a sustainable development model for the Mekong Delta region in the coming time.

Receiving Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam Christian Berger, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed and highly appreciated the Ambassador's attendance at the Conference; demonstrating the German Government's interest in the sustainable development process of the Mekong Delta region.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam.

Through the Ambassador, the Prime Minister respectfully congratulated Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Christian Democratic Union led by her on their victory in the German parliamentary election for the 2017-2021 term.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also thanked Ms. Angela Merkel for inviting the Vietnamese delegation to attend the G20 Summit last July and said that the good results of the G20 Summit helped create connections between the G20 and APEC, especially in coordinating to promote global free trade.

The Prime Minister stated that the Vietnamese Government is grateful for the effective cooperation and support of the German Government and said that these support programs have contributed positively to the socio-economic development of Vietnam, especially in the fields of vocational training, energy, environmental protection and climate change response. In that spirit, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that the German Government will continue to support the Mekong Delta in developing a development plan in line with the local strengths.

Appreciating the effective cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Strategic Partnership in recent times, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always considers Germany a reliable and important partner in Europe and hopes that the two sides will regularly meet and interact to strengthen mutual trust, bringing the bilateral relationship to continue to develop deeply and effectively in all fields in the coming time.

Ambassador Christian Berger sincerely thanked Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc for taking the time to meet him, expressed his pleasure at attending the Conference on sustainable development of the Mekong Delta in response to climate change, and said he would actively work with relevant agencies of Vietnam to promote cooperation on this issue.

The Ambassador also hopes that the two governments will continue to promote cooperation, towards a better future for the people of the two countries.

Appreciating the significance and importance of the Conference, Ambassador Christian Berger hoped that this Conference would provide practical development cooperation perspectives between Vietnam and countries and development partners, including Germany; thereby contributing to turning the challenges of climate change into stronger development opportunities in the future.

Receiving Mr. Craig Chittick, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the Ambassador's attendance at the Conference, believing that this will contribute to the success of the Conference, and promote the cooperative relationship between the two countries to become more practical and effective.

Prime Minister receives Australian Ambassador to Vietnam.

Thanking the Prime Minister for taking the time to meet him, Ambassador Craig Chittick emphasized the importance of the Conference and said that Australia has had many support and cooperation programs in the Mekong Delta in the past. The Australian Government will continue to provide ODA to Vietnam in the process of economic and social development and will participate in mobilizing resources for Vietnam in an effort to promote the development of the Mekong Delta region.

The Australian Government will also support Vietnam in the spirit of creative partnership, helping Vietnam improve the quality and productivity of agricultural production with many new branded products.

Receiving the Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Pereric Hogberg, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for attending the Conference on Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta Adapting to Climate Change, which demonstrated the affection between the two countries. The Prime Minister hoped that the Ambassador would continue to contribute to the development of the Vietnam-Sweden cooperative relationship.

Ambassador Pereric Hogberg affirmed that Sweden is always interested in the development of the Mekong Delta. The Swedish Government has approved a budget of more than 5 million USD to support the Mekong River Commission. The Ambassador expressed his impression of the presence of the Prime Minister and Government leaders at the Conference to make decisions on the development of the Mekong Delta.

Announcing that the trade turnover between the two countries is growing, the Ambassador affirmed that Sweden and Vietnam are close friends and will do their best to strengthen this friendship.

Receiving the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Jun Yanagi, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc thanked the Ambassador for attending the Conference and highly appreciated Japan's role in the development of the Mekong Delta. The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to developing relations with Japan in the spirit of Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia; at the same time, he suggested that the two sides closely coordinate in preparing for the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Vietnam and his attendance at the APEC Summit.

The Japanese Ambassador highly appreciated the Prime Minister's initiative to organize the Conference on Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta in Adaptation to Climate Change, thereby mobilizing all resources to develop the region that is severely affected by climate change. Currently, sustainable development and climate change adaptation are also one of the main pillars in the cooperation program between Japan and Vietnam. He affirmed that Japan will actively support Vietnam in successfully organizing the APEC Conference./.
