'Diagnosing' car shaking when running

(Baonghean.vn) - Using a car for a long time will not maintain its original perfect function and one of the most common and annoying problems is the phenomenon of shaking when driving on the road. Below are the most common reasons why the car encounters this phenomenon.

Engine problem

Occasionally, a shaking or clutch vibration may emanate from the engine compartment, as the engine is not getting enough air, fuel, or spark needed to run smoothly.

Engine-related symptoms such as shaking or jerking that occurs when accelerating; pulsating, like moving over bumper lines...

The above signs indicate that it is time to replace the spark plugs; if the spark plugs are still good, check the spark plug wires; or the air filter is dirty, the fuel filter is clogged, preventing the engine from accessing the necessary oxygen or fuel...

Powertrain

The power transmission system includes parts such as gearbox, propeller shaft, joints, main transmission, etc. used to transmit motion from the engine to the wheels; therefore, damage or wear of parts in this assembly can cause vibration and shaking of the vehicle.

Worn or loose universal joints are also the cause of vehicle vibration, especially during acceleration or deceleration because the rotation speed of the universal shaft is 3 - 4 times greater than the rotation speed of the wheel. Check the universal joints, if loose, they should be replaced.

Starting from the brake

Uneven axles can cause a lot of vibration, but the bad vibrations only really appear and increase with increased braking force. If so, there is a very good chance that your car has one or more warped brake discs.

The most recognizable sign of this phenomenon is when the brake feels a sudden shake, the steering wheel is jerked. When the brake pedal is pressed, the brake pedal vibrates and bounces slightly. The greater the pressure, the more the pedal vibrates. At that time, the driver feels the steering wheel vibrate.

The best solution is to replace the brake disc and related parts.

Shaft problem

The driveshaft transfers engine power to the rear axles and wheels in a rear-drive vehicle. If the shaft is bent, the vehicle may vibrate.

The cause is worn synchronizer joints; surrounding shields, torn rubber pads allow dirt, dust and debris on the road to penetrate inside and damage the joints.

For front-drive cars, hot synchronizer joints mean you need to buy a new driveshaft.

Shaking wheel

A vibrating wheel may have a loose wheel bearing; another thing to watch out for is “off-centering”, if it exceeds the 1/2 inch limit it is best to replace the wheel.

Other causes of wheel wobble involve the tie rod ends or ball joints. If they are worn, this will cause more undulation in the wheel. At driving speeds, this translates into vibration.

Check the tires

Tires are the number one cause of unpleasant vibrations in the car. If the car vibrates at a certain speed - requires tire balancing; Tires are cracked or torn - require replacement of new tires; Tires wear unevenly - require tire rotation; Tires spin out of round and roll unevenly - require replacement of new tires.

Sometimes the problem is not the tire itself but the dirt, rocks, and asphalt that is stuck on it. Keep your tires clean and avoid potholes to reduce this problem.

Besides the 6 common causes above, car vibration when running can also come from other problems such as:

- If the hood or bumper is not securely fastened, it will vibrate in the wind. This vibration, although small, can sometimes be felt throughout the vehicle.

- Broken exhaust hangers can cause the exhaust system to vibrate when the vehicle is running. They may not notice the slight vibration but if they continue to use the exhaust system will break.

- Worn shock absorbers cause the wheel to bounce. This vibration causes uneven tire wear and reduces driver control.

- Worn steering knuckles can also cause vibration and may appear along with a clicking sound.
