Professional gang of thieves stole 26 dogs in one night
(Baonghean.vn)- During the day, the gang split up to roam around the alleys looking for dogs to steal at night. One night, 3 of them caught 26 dogs from the locals.
On September 28, Tan Ky District People's Court tried the criminal case against Cao Tien Trien, Nguyen Cong Hao, and Nguyen Huu Bang, all residing in Yen Thanh District, for the crime of "Theft of property".
According to the indictment, from May 4, 2017 to May 10, 2017, Nguyen Huu Bang, Cao Tien Trien, and Nguyen Cong Hao used electric shock to commit dozens of dog thefts in Do Luong, Tan Ky, Nghia Dan districts and Thai Hoa town.
During the day, the subjects go around the streets in hamlets, communes, and districts to see where there are many dogs, then return in the evening to carry out the act of stealing.

To avoid detection, Hao drove the truck with license plate 37C-166.46 to a remote location and waited for the subjects to bring the stolen goods to the gathering place. Bang and Trien rode the same motorbike, taking advantage of the quiet night time to find any dog that was not chained properly. The subjects would use electric shock to paralyze the animal, then put it in a sack and load it onto the truck. There were nights in Tan Ky town where 2-3 dogs were stolen at the same time, causing anxiety and frustration among the people.
| Specifically, on the evening of May 4 and early morning of May 5, 3 subjects stole 19 dogs in Thai Hoa Town, Nghia Dan District and some communes of Tan Ky bordering Nghia Dan, with a total weight of 180kg; on the evening of May 7 and early morning of May 8, they stole 26 dogs, weighing 310kg in Tan Ky District; on the evening of May 10 and early morning of May 11, they successfully stole 6 dogs, weighing 68kg in Tan Ky and Do Luong districts. |
At about 01:30 on May 11, 2017, when the Tan Ky District Police working group was patrolling and controlling the Truong Dong slope area in Block 1, Tan Ky Town, they discovered the above mentioned car stopped on the side of the road with many suspicious signs, so they proceeded to check.
When they saw the police checking Nguyen Cong Hao's car, Nguyen Huu Bang and Cao Tien Trien drove away on a motorbike. The task force asked the truck driver, Nguyen Cong Hao, to get out of the car for inspection. During the inspection, they discovered 6 dogs locked in an iron cage on the truck bed, so the task force asked Nguyen Cong Hao to bring the car and 6 dogs to Tan Ky District Police Headquarters for questioning.

During the investigation, Nguyen Cong Hao confessed that he bought the dogs from a stranger on the road while transporting goods from Thai Hoa town to Yen Thanh district with the intention of reselling them for profit.
After finishing the work, Tan Ky District Police Department let Nguyen Cong Hao go home and temporarily detained the car and 6 dogs for investigation and clarification.
Realizing that their actions were illegal, from May 15-17, 2017, Nguyen Cong Hao, Nguyen Huu Bang and Cao Tien Trien turned themselves in to Tan Ky District Police and confessed to all their crimes. Bang had two previous convictions for theft. The total value of the property that the defendants appropriated was VND 26,558,000.
At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced Nguyen Huu Bang to 18 months in prison, Cao Tien Trien to 15 months in prison, suspended for 30 months, and Nguyen Cong Hao to 12 months in prison, suspended. The total amount of money the subjects had to compensate the victim was 8,100,000 VND.
