North Korea continues to close restaurants in Vietnam

This morning (October 2), multiple sources reported that the second North Korean restaurant in Vietnam has recently closed. This incident occurred in the context of the international community increasing sanctions against North Korea, causing the country's foreign currency income to be cut off.

Specifically, according to the South Korean community in the Southeast Asian country, Koryo Restaurant, a North Korean restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, closed last week. This restaurant opened in 2014 and had about 15 North Koreans working there.

The restaurant has announced that it is temporarily closed for renovations, but an employee of a nearby restaurant said the North Korean restaurant will close permanently as it is being sold to a new owner.

According to Yonhap, the closure of this restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City comes after a North Korean food restaurant in Da Nang closed last February due to poor business.

Despite its close ties with North Korea, Vietnam has joined the international community in condemning North Korea's provocations, including its sixth nuclear bomb test last month and a series of ballistic missile launches, Yonhap reported.
