Farmers earn tens of millions of dong from Dien grapefruit
(Baonghean.vn) - In recent years, in Anh Son district, many effective models of crop restructuring have appeared, including the Dien grapefruit growing model.
Mr. Chu Van Xuan's family in village 3, Lang Son commune, was the first household to bring Dien grapefruit trees to plant in the area. Mr. Xuan shared: Previously, on an area of nearly 2 sao of mixed garden land, it was not effective. In 2008, after researching and knowing the economic value of Dien grapefruit trees, he decided to invest in planting 40 trees.
After 3 years of focused care and applying the correct technical process, the family's grapefruit garden has produced stable harvests. In 2016, with an average price of 20,000 VND/fruit, each tree brought in an income of 1.5 - 2.5 million VND. After deducting expenses, his family earned over 60 million VND.
Not only successful with the Dien grapefruit growing model, Mr. Xuan also became a seed supplier for farmers in the region from grafting branches, along with enthusiastically instructing farmers on planting and care techniques, and pest control.

Among the households that have implemented Dien grapefruit planting following the model of Mr. Xuan's family, Mr. Le Xuan Dung's household in Village 3, Lang Son Commune has renovated his family's garden to plant 30 trees. Mr. Dung said: From October to December is the time when Dien grapefruits are ripe, so right from the beginning of the season, traders from neighboring districts such as Do Luong and Con Cuong have come to buy the whole garden at an average price of 15-20 thousand VND/fruit.
According to Mr. Dung, Dien grapefruit can be preserved for a long time, the more withered the fruit is, the sweeter it is, so it is favored by many people. Moreover, the demand of consumers during Tet holidays increases, so in recent years, grapefruit has always had a good price. Currently, his family is focusing on taking care of it to prepare for the sweet fruit season.
Up to now, Lang Son commune has established 2 cooperatives for growing Dien grapefruit, with over 40 households participating in growing on an area of nearly 5 hectares, of which nearly 10 households have earned an annual income of 30 - 50 million VND. Thanks to intensive cultivation, proper care of grapefruit trees, timely pest control, combined with additional pollination, Dien grapefruit productivity has increased, grapefruits are uniform in fruit, and have beautiful appearance. On average, each grapefruit tree earns an income of 1.5 - 2.5 million VND.
