After 7 years of being wrongly prosecuted for fraud and property appropriation, a female accountant in Dong Nai received a public apology from the Procuracy.

On October 4, Bien Hoa City Procuracy (Dong Nai) held an apology to Ms. Trinh Thi Nghi (40 years old) in Long Binh ward, where she lives.

According to records, in 2007, Ms. Nghi worked as an accountant at the Tainan Fiber Company in Dong Nai. A year later, the company accused her of falsifying the salaries of 245 workers who had quit their jobs to embezzle more than 359 million VND.

In 2010, the female accountant was approved by the Bien Hoa City Procuracy to be prosecuted and detained for the act of Fraudulent appropriation of property. However, when the case was brought to trial, the Bien Hoa City People's Court returned the file due to lack of evidence to charge her. Earlier this year, the investigation was suspended.

At the apology, with the presence of family members and local authorities, the representative of the Procuracy said that the wrongful prosecution had caused material and mental damage, affecting the reputation and dignity of Ms. Nghi.

"The losses and damages suffered by Ms. Nghi are irreparable. Therefore, we send our sincere apologies to her and her family and hope to receive her acceptance," said the representative of the People's Procuracy, adding that they will strictly handle individuals involved in the violations.

Ms. Nghi said that in the past, she and her family had to call for help everywhere to get to where they are today. "When I was arrested, I was raising a child under 36 months old, but my request for bail was not accepted. The apology to me and my family today is too late," she said.

The compensation level has not yet been agreed upon by both parties.
