Pig prices drop after sedative injection incident
According to many farm owners, although traders still buy pigs to send to China, the price of live pigs in the North and Central regions has dropped to about 27,000 - 30,000 VND/kg.
Currently, Mr. Doan Van Minh's family in Luc Nam district (Bac Giang) has about 100 pigs ready to be sold, but due to low prices, Mr. Minh intends to wait for prices to increase before selling, but the longer he waits, the more the price of live pigs decreases, making him and his wife feel like "sitting on hot coals".
"Just a few days ago, the traders asked for 30 (ie 30,000 VND/kg), but today when I called, they forced it down to 29 (29,000 VND/kg). My family is very worried that if the price drops further, we will lose more money," said Mr. Minh.
Mr. Minh said that currently traders still say they collect and send pigs to China, but they still force down prices, making farmers very confused.
Although there is still information that pig traders are shipping goods to China, domestic pig prices are still falling, causing domestic pig farmers to be very worried. |
In the same situation as Mr. Minh's family, Mr. Tran Huy Hieu's family in Vinh Tuong district (Vinh Phuc) currently has a herd of nearly 100 pigs ready to be sold, but is still waiting for traders to collect enough shipments before coming to buy. "In my opinion, the reason for the decrease in pig prices is partly due to the recent discovery in the South of the case of injecting sedatives into pigs. Currently, the authorities are taking strict measures to make slaughterhouse owners stop or reduce purchases, causing a large amount of pigs left in the population, which has caused the nationwide pig price to decrease slightly like that," Mr. Hieu shared.
Mr. Hieu said that with the price of live pigs at about 30,000 VND/kg, farmers have to suffer a loss of about 5,000 VND - 6,000 VND/kg depending on the type.
In the Central region, the price of pigs (October 7) has slightly decreased to 30,000 VND/kg, in many places the price is only 28,000 VND to 29,000 VND/kg, even pig breeding at farms is still sluggish because there are not many buyers to restock.
