Man City still has a chance to buy Messi with a fee of 470 million dollars

The English team seriously considered spending money on Barca to recruit the owner of five Golden Balls.

Barca officially announced on their homepage about extending Lionel Messi's contract until 2021 on July 5. However, this has not been verified because the Argentine superstar has not confirmed it.

The opportunity to buy Messi, therefore, is still intact for Man City. According to AS, Pep Guardiola's team is ready to sit down at the negotiating table, and has thought about offering 470 million dollars for the Nou Camp's number one star.

Messi's future at Barca is uncertain.

A source close to Man City confirmed to AS that "serious talks have been held". If Messi does not renew his contract with Barca, the Etihad team is ready to jump in.

The 30-year-old striker's old contract will expire in the summer of 2018. Any other club, if interested in Messi, can negotiate with the Argentine striker from January.

As for Barca, the Catalan club remained calm. "Everything is signed, there is nothing to worry about," last season's La Liga runners-up repeated. However, the most authentic detail - the image of Messi signing the contract with President Josep María Bartomeu - was not released by Barca.

AS commented: "The possibility of Messi not signing a new contract cannot be ruled out." The Madrid-based daily also commented: "Messi is currently satisfied with life in Barcelona. His wife does not support the move, but there are things that do not depend on Messi's personal wishes."
