Hydroelectric power plant releases floodwater, Quy Chau submerged in water
(Baonghean.vn) - Chau Thang Hydropower Plant, invested by Prime Que Phong Joint Stock Company, discharged floodwaters today, causing severe flooding in Quy Chau.
Currently, Chau Thang Hydropower Plant is releasing floodwaters through 3 valves raised to 3m (in which the maximum level of the valve when opened is 6m) with a flood discharge of 504m3/s.
Immediately after releasing the flood, the water from Chau Thang Hydropower Plant flooded the spillway through the center of Chau Thang Commune, the spillway into Hoa Tien Village, Chau Tien Commune, causing complete isolation in these two localities. At the same time, the heavy flood on Hieu River caused landslides on both sides of the river and heavy flooding in Quy Chau.
The reservoir is over 10 km long, 200 m wide on average, and has a capacity of 18 million m3. According to Mr. Ho Ngoc Thiet - Deputy Director of Prime Que Phong Joint Stock Company, due to heavy rain in Quy Chau and Que Phong districts since the evening of October 9, the amount of water from rivers and streams pouring in was strong, so at 2:00 a.m. on October 10, 2017, the company notified the communes affected by the flood discharge, namely Chau Thang, Chau Tien, Chau Hanh, and Tan Lac town, to move their assets and livestock to a safe place.

Chau Thang Hydropower Project has a designed capacity of 14MW, built in Quy Chau and Que Phong districts, in which the factory area is located in Quy Chau district, and was put into operation in June 2017.
