18 people buried while sleeping

Early this morning, a series of houses near a stream in Tan Lac district collapsed due to landslides, burying 18 people.

Early morning October 12, stream bankat Khanh hamlet, Phu Cuong commune (Tan Lac) suddenlysubsidence, causing 7 houses to collapse. At least 4 houses were completely buried along with 18 people.

Rescue forces and local police arrived at the scene and rescued three people.

At around 1am, the Fire Police, Rescue and Relief Department of Hoa Binh also mobilized 2 vehicles and more than 20 officers and soldiers. After 6 hours of digging, 7 bodies were brought out. Most of them were buried several meters deep under the layer of soil and rocks.

Witnesses and rescue workers said,There are at least 10 others below.Excavators were brought in to dig and search.

In just 36 hours from October 9 to the morning of October 11, the amount of rain recorded in Mai Chau was up to 420 mm, Kim Boi 350 mm, Da Bac 290 mm, Hoa Binh City 200 mm... The rain caused landslides on many hills, rivers and streams rose rapidly, flooding houses on both sides, submerging many roads.

As of the morning of October 12, nearly 30 people have died and gone missing in the entire Hoa Binh province. National Highway 21, Provincial Highways 438, 433, 450 are flooded 1-2m deep, landslides on the positive slopes cause traffic jams...
